November 28 - The Film

Synopsis: This is the story of a former cop and how his deadly actions tear apart a close-knit family one tragic day. It's a story of high hopes and dreams and the untimely loss of innocent life. The startling conclusion will cause you to question our justice system and the value it places on human life.

Treatment Letter: The best way to tell you about my project is to tell you how I came up with idea to do it. Being fascinated with such movie as, A Time To Kill and Capote, I decided to write a film about two mothers struggling to create a better life, not only for themselves, but their children as well.

Naomi Nixon, a fifty-year old mother of three, and Latoya Nixon, a twenty-four year old mother of two; have both started overcoming societal issues and are looking forward to the life they both imagined they'd never have. To protect her children from the many dangers of city life, Naomi takes her children from the mean streets of New Jersey to the quiet security of a small town in South Carolina to move in with her mother, Sylvia. Latoya, Sylvia's granddaughter, and her two sons live there as well.

Is Jamestown , South Carolina really safer than New Jersey ? This small town is governed by a sixty eight year old cop who has it in for Naomi's nineteen year old cousin Lorenzo, who is a high school drop out and known drug dealer, but wants to return to school and get his G.E.D.

On the morning of November 28, 2003, the morning after Thanksgiving , Latoya, having been approved for her very own apartment earlier in the week, left her sons packing to walk to Lorenzo's house to use his truck. Naomi's fifteen year old daughter, Melissa, wants to help so she follows. Twenty minutes later, the three are standing near the highway talking as the sixty eight year old cop comes driving up, aiming a .12 gauge rifle at Lorenzo. As he instructs the girls to run away, ONE shot goes off. Lorenzo is shot in the face but lives. This is a .12 gauge at close range, as Latoya and Melissa run away, they too are shot and instantly killed from the spreading pellets to the back of their heads and backs. All three are hit with one shot, and now the family has to deal with the murderous cop in court.

What if I reveal that everything I said here is true? It really happened to my family and that is what my script is about.

TRUE EVENTS are a tremendous source of material. Whether presented in documentary form or dramatized, true events have a natural resonance. Audiences seem drawn to true stories, which in turn provide excellent marketing opportunities. True stories cannot be owned by anyone. The first amendment grants the filmmaker (me) the right to tell a story using his own expression.

For the guerilla filmmaker, many true stories need to be told to promote ideas and impact society. Given these positive attributes, true stories are a natural source of material. A movie such as Boy's Don't Cry, which highlights rape and murder, is compelling because of the awful truth it reveals. As such, the filmmaker had a story she needed to tell and it gained world wide recognition.

As a budding filmmaker, I intend to produce, direct and distribute an independent film about this extremely unfortunate incident so all can have the opportunity to understand the truth and injustices surrounding the death of my beloved cousins. We will never forget.

As long as the links below continue to work, you can see some of the news accounts about this incident.

My loving aunt, Carolyn (pictured left), departed this life on November 2003. She died from a heart attack only one week prior to the shooting deaths of my cousins, Latoya and Melissa.

My aunt and my two cousins all lived in the same home with my grandmother. Within the span of two short weeks my grandmother lost everyone that was living with her in her home.

Aunt Carolyn was a huge inspiration to me because although she had diabetes, had both legs amputated in a period of 10 years, and had to go on a kidney dialysis machine three times a week, she remained cheerful and positive. She lost her life after experiencing a heart attack while undergoing dialysis.

Aunt Carolyn was truly inspirational and she was a strong, motivational force in my life.

Financial support and investor funding

Writing, producing and distributing a film is a costly endeavor. Financial support and funding for this important and enlightening film production is growing. The interest of investors that know and understand the value related to imminent success of this cinematic endeavor is providing growing investments in helping to cover the nearly $250,000 in estimated production costs. If you would like to invest in the expected box office ticket earnings estimated to be over $1 million, contact me at antnixus@yahoo.com.
